Letter from Chris Fortin: Spring
04/08/10 Filed in: News | Chris Letters

Waking yawns greet Dawn’s grayish blue haze
Sun’s orange eye peeks out from under the sky covers
Shower splashes meet grinning sleepy faces
Giddy hands and feet eagerly throw on favorite clothes
Warm air surrounds on the way to the car, the bus, the train, the plane
Happy Eastertide, everyone! This is the season of resurrection, the definition of which is (clears throat, dons glasses):
noun
1. The act of rising from the dead or returning to life.
2. The state of one who has returned to life.
3. The act of bringing back to practice, notice, or use; revival.
4. The act of reviving or condition of being revived.
Synonyms include: reactivation, rebirth, renaissance, renewal, resurgence, resuscitation, revitalization and revivification.
Easter Sunday kicked off a 50-day celebration leading to Pentecost Sunday – an almost 2 month “rebirthday party” if you will. (That’s A LOT of chips and dip.) The evidence of this shindig is everywhere. You can’t miss it! Just find someone with allergies! They’ll tell you it’s definitely here. (Sorry sneezers, see definition #3 – think tissues and Claritin.) This grand “do-over!”, this “one more time”, this season of all things new hurls paint palettes at trees, plants and skies. The air is filled with bird tweets, belly laughs, straw sips, and tailgate tunes. Neighborhoods erupt into festivals, parades, gardens, concerts, sports games, and sudden day trips “just because”. It’s a smorgasbord of live art, a story of creativity that captivates every eye and ear, every mind and heart.
As readers and listeners of this story, a tale more vibrant and tangible than even Alice’s wonderland, we are moved to respond and react when we encounter each chapter. What those chapters of “Creation”, of revivification (that’s my favorite, by the way) look like might be entirely different from person to person. So, what we here at BreatheArts would like to know is: what are those moments for you? How would you tell your version of those synonyms listed above?
Over the next several weeks, artists from PCNP will contribute new material that explains through sight and sound their own “Creation Story”. I invite you to return to the site and check out the updates as they occur. Thanks so much for visiting today. Now go out there and celebrate!
In Christ,

Director of Worship and Music
