“I was asked by a friend, Lauren Cantor, who has started a group named Hearts for Haiti, New Jersey to provide some art work for her. She has asked local artists to contribute works to be reproduced as postcards and note cards which will be sold with all profits going to Haitian relief. She got a really good response and has enough works to produce two rounds of cards. The drawing came to me from a Caribbean song, "The Borning Song," by Harry Belefonte, that I have loved since I was a Child. I drew the mother and child first in pencil and then colored a copy with oil pastels.”
